In this picture, a ballerina is falling off of the tip of the Eiffel Tower, and a cat, wearing a cape, is flying to catch her. This creates the allusion that a ballerina is standing on top of the Eiffel Tower and that the cat is flying. To do this, I used many tools in photoshop, such as the liquify tool, rotation, and polygon lasso. This was a fun and exciting project because I have never used photoshop, but have always wanted to try it!

Photoshop

This is a picture of a photoshopped rhino and zebra. First we got a slab of clay and rolled it out on the slab roller. We cut out templates and cut our clay to make a design. We then placed our clay over real bowls to get the round shape. After letting our clay rest, we carved it and shaped it. The next day we painted it with wet red clay. Later, we put it into the kiln to harden and turn into greenware. I like my bowl because it looks organic on the end (with small dots that I poked through). I also like that it is simple and not too dramatic. If I were to change one thing about my bowl, I would add a little bit more detail on the inside around the circle. In my group we each painted an object separately (I did the paper/head) and aligned them to create an image. We chose to do a polar bear as our image. The hardest part of this project was to adjust and align the three different objects to get the picture to match up. I think that we were successful in this project and matched the whole picture nicely. One thing I might change would be to add more detail to some of the parts of the body. This was a very fun experience and I was excited to see the final result! I choose to do a toucan. We used photoshop on the computer to make our picture black and white. Then we traced it on overheads so that we had no black or white islands. We cut out the shapes and had our stencils! I also built the frame and painted it blue.
I think that my picture came out great! I love the colors I used, and I think that the green in the back makes it look like the toucan is sitting in a rainforest. I think the project worked very well, except for the fact that it was difficult to spray paint it because it was raining and I was afraid it would smudge. It was also difficult to cut out the picture with a blade because of the curves. If I were to do this project over again I would probably paint the frame a different color to mach the rest of the picture. I enjoyed doing this project, and think that it was a very fun experience. I also love the outcome!!! :)

Brick Mosaic Art

In art, we created mosiacs on the wall of our courtyard. We each picked an animal (we choose a monkey) and colored in the bricks. Each brick would count as three pixels. Overall I think that our group did a great job because you can make out what the image is supposed to be. However, I think that we should have picked some more contrasting colors because most of our colors are in the same color family. Different colors would have made the monkey stand out a lot better. In our group we each colored different sections and swtitched on and off with calling colors, and coloring. This project was pretty simple, but it was tiring to color all of the blocks in the sun. I enjoyed this project and think that it was a very fun experience and I loved learning how to create a mosaic.

In this picture, my group and I are working on our mosaic.

Oil Pastel Portrait

This week we created a portriat of anyone of our choice and colored the picture using oil pastels. The colors that we used had to look unrealistic (blue face, green hair). The idea of this project was to create highlights and shadows using colored pastels. I think that this project was successful, but I wish that I could have done a better job shading the face. My favorite part of my drawing is the hair, with the shading and highlights my hair actually looks curly. The hardest part of this project was creating the shadows because you had to layer the pastels several times. Because of this project, I learned how to shade with color, and not only in black and white. This project was a fun experience for me, and I enjoyed adding detail to several parts of the picture.

In class we teamed up into groups and created a mud painting of a piece of classical art. My group chose to do The Scream. Each of us worked on a separate part of the painting to distribute it to the sidewalk in chalk. Then we each choose a different shade of mud and painted our own sections. I think this piece was successful, but could have been neater in the lines. The most difficult part about this project was painting the details with lumpy mud and making the lines straight. If I were to do this project over again I would probably try to take my time in painting certain sections to make it look neat and clean. I learned that there are many different ways to recreate certain paintings that are simple, but have detail (in the value scale grays). This project was definitely something new, that I have never tried before and was a fun experience.

Value Scale Drawing

In art we had the assignment of drawing another person in the class using value scales. We were supposed to use shading in many areas to try to make it look like our picture of the person. I think my drawing came out good, but the shading could have been done better by making it look natural instead of a few shapes. The most difficult part about this piece was making the shading look realistic. I learned that it is important to take your time when shading and it is better to try not to erase too many things. When I had erased some lines I had drawn, I tried to color over it, but the pencil marks showed through.
